SemBreak, Vol.2

Sitting on the computer chair for 12 hours

Yes, I sit in front of our computer table for 12 hours at least everyday. This is really a very boring semestral break, probably the most boring sembreak in my life. I’m just sitting here in front of the computer, just like the people at the stock exchange, monitoring stock changes. I eat lunch, not breakfast because I wake up late. Everything’s boring, even baking chocolate crinkles did not eat the boring atmosphere. To kill time, I am watching several episodes of Top Gear, Neon Genesis Evangelion and the new Gundam series, Gundam 00. The Evangelion series that’s in english dub goes only up to episode 8 and the rest are in mexican, latin or spanish dub, not even a single english subtitle word is present.

My brother’s black iPod Nano 8GB

He gave me his iPod and said I can borrow it for the day. I got it in my hands when I was awakened to sign the appeal letter for my scholarship. Anyway, the iPod’s the topic. The iPod was special just because it’s a new one, it’s black and 8GB. I’m thankful that todayit’s on my hands again, just to kill boredom and my “16 instrumental songs” in my Nokia 3300. The Nokia 3300 had better sound quality than any other mp3 players I’ve used. The equalizer settings for iPod were all fixed but the Nokia 3300 had 5 levels of adjustment and had a similar Dolby-sound-surround system that makes the music play like it’s played around you, not just on the earphones. A Loudness feature for Nokia 3300 was also available that increases the strength of the sound in decibels. Still, the drawback for Nokia is the memory card capacity which is only up to 128 MB compared to iPod’s 8 GB-ish.

Appeal letter!

I hope the appeal for 100% scholarship will be approved. (I need to win the Nintendo DS Lite from my brother and have wi-fi internet on school!) For one thing, it will help my parents a lot. Also, I will no longer depend on the discount that my dad’s employment offers. My dad’s job is very unstable and he might lose it just before I start my second year as an Electronics and Communications Engineering student at Ateneo. I hope I will be able to get the scholarship, it will really be a good help for my parents, not the NDS lite…..

Escalators munching Crocs…

Yup, saw that on the news before. A group of people tested if Crocs will be eaten by escalators after several complaints were heard regarding injuries of wearing such footwear. I’m not saying that Crocs are bad. Actually, I prefer Crocs rather than the very famous slippers…. nope, I don’t know the spelling. Sheesh….

Worn out…

Like me. Hahahah! More at I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER

SemBreak, Vol.1

The Q-steer “QS-” series

The Q-steer IR control line comes with the controller but after the release of the first generation 6 units, Takara-Tomy released the same batch of units except that it doesn’t have the controller. Yes, the units only come with the car but the party piece of these cars is that they don’t come with plain color scheme but rather rare color schemes. For instance, the car above is the QS-01 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 ver. Nismo. It has the paint job of the real version Nismo of the Skyline. The others might come as a police car, flashy color scheme or paint job of the common service vehicles you can see at Japan. Although there’s one problem with the package and it is the price difference between the Car package and the starter package. The Starter set costs here Php 599.75 and the the Car/booster package costs Php 479.75, less than 200 Php difference. I mean if I were the manufacturer I will make the booster package a bit cheaper than the current price. That’s just unreasonable! If you go to the shop and say I want a new Q-steer, you’d certainly buy the one with remote instead of the “car only” package. For those kind of buyers, they might think what’s the difference with the normal paint scheme and a rare paint scheme. Both still run with the same motor, gear ratio, battery type and chassis specifications. The Single car package comes with a little battery cover remover for the car.

Blurry pic: The one on the left is the Police car Skyline and the one on the right is the Nismo Skyline. The single car pack comes with the opposite set of bands with the starter set.

Fascination with the camera…

aahhh… Got my batteries recharged and played with the old digital camera…

Issues of today…

NEWS?

Recently, I’ve heard about the discrimination of Philippine Med schools from the show “Desperate Housewives”. I tried reading more articles about it and found out that the woman involved in the descrimination in the show actually wanted to see the doctor’s credentials to make sure that it’s not from some med school in the Philippines. What kind of line is that? I mean, the network of the show said that they have no intention of discriminating Filipinos in their show. OH COME ON! If that’s true then why do you have to really say “some med school from the Philippines”? That’s some disrespectful act! If you tried looking at it, and according to the articles I’ve read, U.S. is eating the largest percentage of doctors and nurses from the Philippines. Also, the medical schools here in the Philippines are recognized worldwide.

Man, they should really apologize. Probably more than apologies that they should pay.  We Filipinos just accept bad comments without reacting violently but this one really made even the Filipino-American community angry.

Daily rants

I’m having a very difficult time these days, especially my finals is next week. The problem I encountered in this school is that even though I know how the grading system works, I can’t establish a firm ground on how to track my progress. Most of the teachers don’t have the same grading system in the class. They all have different styles of grading the student unlike in high school where they said that the passing grade is 85 for majors and 83 for minors. And that’s it. Maybe I still have to adjust, especially it’s hard thing for me since I studied from a public school and ended up in a very sophisticated and prestige university in college. Those two are reeeeaaally different, whether in terms of culture, style, food, people and more.

Q-steer satellite post

I’m currently studying Q-steer’s body exchange with Choro-Q bodies. Recently, I was able to get rid of the glue onto the Q-steer’s body and was able to remove the body for the first time. The Q-steer’s body is similar to Choro-Q’s but the problem is that Choro-Q’s are not snap-in bodies but rather screw-type ones, probably to prevent the little children from eating them. I still have to search more ideas on how to replace the body, especially without the use of hot glue and other sticky stuff. I might also buy again the Tamiya additional weights to see whether I can make the car drift without sticking a very large coin at the front.

I still have to study for my finals so probably this post will stay at the top for a week.

When the little ones hide great things…

I was trying to search more about the information regarding Q-steer’s remote function when I encountered this video, with japanese language and all other weird stuff. It says “Q-STEER?????” and lots more “?” with the video title from Youtube. The video starts by showing “DRIFT TUNE – GC8 IMPREZA”. Now, I though that was a joke because if the Bit Char-G I had can’t even make a decent donut spin, this little car then should not even perform nearly as good as Bit Char-G. After showing that ridiculous title, I was amazed with what I saw. The little car can really drift! It showed how the car can drift, by adding reasonable weight at front, a coin would do, and make the rear tires slippery as much as you can. After that, you can start drifting! I tried it once and it made me laugh for minutes due to amazement. The controls are not as difficult as the Drift-spec R/C’s made by Tamiya, those R/C’s that are 1:10 scale and drifts by performing the same maneuvering you do with real-life drifting. What you do with Q-steer is that you press the direction of the counter-steer, and it really counter-steers while drifting. Say, you want to go sideways while turning left so press right while also pressing on the forward button. I don’t have a video cam so maybe I’ll just post the video I saw. If you don’t have Adobe Flash Player, then sorry, you cannot view the video.
